U12 Cup Hopes end in Castlefin

24 May 2026

CASTLEFIN CELTIC 4-2 DRUMOGHILL

There was disappointment in Castlefin this morning as our Division 1 team exited the DUL League Cup competition.

Harry Browne got both of our goals, but it was too little, too late and so our cup hopes end after a thrilling campaign that came with 5 wins out of 5 and conceding only one goal in the process.

But they met their match today and it will be a game that they will learn from.

After a tightly contested and even first half, Castlefin led by a single goal which came just before half time and the second half started with both sides knowing that the next goal would be crucial and it was the home side that extended their led with a double strike inside the first 5 minutes of the second half to put Castlefin into a 3-0 lead.

Drumoghill were still reeling from the home side's quickfire start when they conceded a penalty that led to Castlefin making it 4-0 to seemingly end the contest.

But Drumoghill managed to regroup and compose themselves again and hit back with a brilliant double strike from Harry Brown who managed to find space twice in the space of 4 minutes to curl home a couple of fine goals.

Bobby Russell then had a decent effort well saved as Drumoghill threatened the most unlikely of comebacks but the referee's final whistle soon ended any thoughts of that.

Congratulations to Castlefin, we wish you sell in the final. Our thanks to you for hosting the game and to Damien McFadden for officiating.

Drumoghill though will reflect on the few minutes either side of half time and realise that was where the game was lost.

This is all part of the learning and we move onto the league campaign with plenty of positives from a brilliant campaign.
