Paddy Ward is well known across the Donegal League from his time as a player with Drumoghill. Most of us at Drumoghill will fondly remember his goals and his ability to win a game on his own.
Others that played against him might have different memories.
But before all that, Paddy came up against us during our days in the Derry & District (D&D) League.
Paddy was playing for his local side, Creggan Swifts, and this week's throwback features a report from a game that was played on 23rd April 1989.
Paddy helped himself to a couple of goals as his side ran out 5-3 winners. Ward clearly made an impression with our scouts though, given that he was a Drumoghill player a few months later.
Those of us that played against Paddy that day certainly don't have the same fond memories from that game that would come later.
Ward featured in some of our Summer cup teams during 1989 and completed a transfer before we began the 1989/1990 season. Drumoghill scored over 100 goals in that season with Ward more than playing his part.
Paddy went on to help the club win many trophies over the next 10 years and has always retained a connection with the club. He is currently coaching our first team and even made an appearance for the club last Summer when we celebrated our 100 years.
