Reds slip to defeat in Glenea

4 Oct 2026

GLENEA UNITED 3-1 DRUMOGHILL

Always a tough venue to visit and so it proved as Drumoghill slipped to defeat to hand their hosts their first points of the season.

In a game that had a lot of similarities to Drumoghill's last away game at Ballybofey, the home side scored 3 times in the opening half-hour before Drumoghill regained some control in the second half with a much more measured display.

Playing away to a team that were in the Premier Division last season, promoted Drumoghill knew this would be a difficult assignment so will be disappointed to have conceded an early goal that set the tone for the contest ahead.

Drumoghill got off to the worst possible start when Gleanea opened the scoring in the 2nd minute through Stephen Doak's wind-assisted effort form distance.

Despite that setback, Drumoghill did have some good moments in that opening period of the game but a three minute spell midway through the first half put the game beyond doubt thanks to 2 goals from Darren McGeever.

His first goal came on 20 minutes when McGeever was quickest to react after Mark Margey saved his initial effort, before he found the net again 3 minutes later with a cross come shot that found the corner of the net.

Drumoghill did respond well and had much the better of the second half and got some consolation when Dylan McElhinney made it 2 from 2 games when he found the net with a late consolation.
