Reds exit Brian McCormick Cup

6 May 2026

DRUMOGHILL 0-1 KILDRUM TIGERS

Drumoghill's season ended this evening with their cup hopes dashed as Kildrum Tigers booked their place in the semi finals of the Brian McCormick cup with this victory at The Moss.

Johnny Robb’s spot kick on 75 minutes was the difference between the teams in a close game that always looked like a single goal would win it. Robb sent Calum Crampsie the wrong way from the spot, after he himself had won the penalty.

The decisive moment which came after a brilliant through ball from Ronan McKinley sent Robb clear. Robb was poised to strike, but Dylan McElhinney intervened and he was unlucky to make contact with Robb before getting a touch the ball.

Up until that point, there were little chances of note with defences on top and neither goalkeeper called upon to make any saves of note.

That said, the visitors were expected to dominate possession and that is how the game evolved with McKinley and Shane McGinty particularly prominent looking to find spaces, but McElhinney and Leon Doherty were always in the right place at the right time to deal with any danger.

For newly promoted Drumoghill, this was a good test against a very good Premier Division team and Jockey Wilson will be pleased with much of what he saw.

The home side played a containing game for much of the contest, but did get numbers forward in the closing stages in an effort to force extra time.

Niall McCrossan had a decent effort deflected wide on 88 minutes, and from the resulting corner, Drumoghill almost snatched an equaliser. Liam O’Donnell was quickest to react and he was unlucky to see an effort go narrowly wide after Sean Friel had made a good block to deny Ben Cassidy.

Kildrum through held out and will now go on to meet Kilmacrennan Celtic in the semi-finals.
