Sunday Setback for Reds

Letterbarrow Celtic 2-1 Drumoghill FC

8 Mar 2026

Our Sunday team missed the chance to put daylight between them and one of the other contenders in the race for promotion from Division 2 after this narrow defeat at Letterbarrow Celtic.

The difference between these teams was reduced from 5 points to just 2 points after this result, although Drumoghill do have a game in hand.

Drumoghill though will be disappointed with the result and the performance.

All of the goals came in a three minute spell at the start of the second half after a below par performance in the first half. Drumoghill have been impressive for much of the season, but failed to reach those heights today.

Having seen the home side take the lead on 47 minutes through Daniel Meehan, Drumoghill managed to find an immediate equaliser when Karol McGinley was quickest to react only a minute later.

It was hoped that this equaliser would give the visitors the impetus to go on and win the game. But a lapse in concentration allowed Darragh Burke to grab the winner only a minute later for the home side.

Drumoghill tried as they might, but couldn't find a way despite a late flurry of corners and in the end had to settle for defet.

The result means that, with 6 games to go, there is the potential for any one of 7 teams to force their way into the promption places -it's all set up for a frantic finish.

Drumoghill have no game next week but will hope to return to winning ways when they face Dunkineely and Dunfanaghy before the end of March.
