Crucial win for U12s

Bethany Goudie's second half winner was ultimately the difference between the sides after Danny Doherty had scored in the first half to bring his side level.

But a crucial penalty save at 1-1 was the game's turning point, and it was brilliant save by James O'Donnell that kept the scores level only minutes before Bethany's winner.

The save was all the more remarkable considering it was his first time playing as goalkeeper all season with our regular keeper among a host of players that were unavailable.

The home side started brighter and made good use of having the elements in their favour, and they opened the scoring through Shay McGuiness on 16 minutes.

As they so often do after an early setback, Drumoghill equalised and this time it was Danny Doherty that was on target to make it 1-1 after 20 minutes. It remained this way after an even first half.

There was little between the teams for much of this game. Both brought 100% records into this game and both were keen on maintaining them.

Ballybofey had the perfect opportunity to regain the lead when they were awarded the penalty but James
O'Donnell stood firm and produced a super save that might just be remembered later as a season defining moment.

The longer the game went on, the more it seemed likely that it would end in a draw.

But Bethany Goudie had other ideas and she was in the right place at the right time to fire home a pass from Danny Doherty and Drumoghill held on for a crucial win.
