It was disappointing start to life in the Donegal Underage League as our U12s lost out to a late goal in their opening match at Raphoe Town.

Although the result was disappointing, the result was anything but as the young reds dominated for large periods and had the better chances throughout.

Playing against a strong first half breeze, Drumoghill took some time to settle but gradually took control of the game with James O'Donnell, Harvey Smyth and Jack White all forcing saves after good efforts.

But they were to come even closer when Bobby Russell picked up a loose ball at the edge of the box and hit a first time effort that cannoned back off the upright and was cleared to safety.

Drumoghill picked up in the second half where they left off in the first and looked the more likely to break the deadlock, but the game remained scoreless.

The game became a more even affair as both sides looked to settle the game on penalties but Raphoe struck late through Conor McBride to claim the points.

It was a tough lesson for Drumoghill but they will learn and bounce back.

Thanks to the Moms and Dads for their support and to referee Eunan Brolly who looked as fit as he did when he played for Drumoghill many many years ago.
