Dessie Kelly RIP

Thursday 13th June 2024
Everyone associated with Drumoghill FC joins the local soccer community in sending their thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of Dessie Kelly, and indeed to everyone at Letterkenny Rovers.

Dessie was well known to all of us at The Moss and was a frequent visitor to the club throughout his time in football. Dessie dedicated his life to the game he loved, not only in his capacity as a lifelong member of Letterkenny Rovers but across his many roles in various leagues and organisations at local and national level.

Although Dessie was best known as a follower of Letterkenny Rovers (having helped establish the club in the 1960s), he was always of great help to any other club that ever asked for it and was always there to offer his assistance in any way. In fact, the goal frames that are currently in use at The Moss were sourced by Dessie who discovered that the FAI no longer required them.

Soccer in this county would not have evolved the way it has without Dessie. He will be greatly missed by every club in the county and by many of us that don't remember a time that we didn't know him. His loss is a sad day for the football family.

However, he will be especially missed by his family and all of those at Letterkenny Rovers. We send our thoughts to his wife Annette and to the extended Kelly family at this sad time.

May he rest in peace.
